I have a site that needs a forum, and this one looks great, but I am no php guru. What I want is to have the registration be for the site, not just the forum - so that I can give access to content on the site for registered users and not have to have a seperate login for the forum. I also need to have two options, one where they have access to more content than the other. I have basic php knowledge for connecting to a database, etc, but again i'm no coding guru. Do you think this is possible?

Yes, it is possible. It can be done in a variety of ways. You ask if it is possible, which to me means you'd better hire someone to do it for you.

naw, i'll try and hack thru it myself. i'm doing it for a .org, so i don't have the money to hire someone.

i'm just wondering what all is required. i'm going thru the register.php bit by bit trying to figure out what it needs from other files so i can just include those functions in one file. then i'll change the login to take the user back to the SELF page, etc, add a db entry for the special group and check for that too. hmm.. i wish i did have some money to hire someone to do this.

jgoodsell,
is the other scripting done (sessions, articles) etc. Apart from the forum, you have to display articles based on the logged user etc. There are lots of small things to be done.

good luck.

once I broked it down to what I needed the login to do and figured out how yours worked, it was easier than I thought. I have it working, have a different registration page (registration for the whole site instead of just the forum) and serving up the members only content. love the board - it's really clean and fast.

Hi,

I want a similar solution.

I wish to allow the existing users of another application (php/mySQL) running in the same domain, to directly go to the forum, login using their existing login/pass and able to post into teh forum. Its a user database sharing.

Its like, this borad should act like a moduel to my existign application.

So wht changes are required in the login process?

Thank you very much.

regards

babul

I don't know what you need to do because I don't know the other script. You'll need to edit index.php but the exact changes that are needed will become clear when you compare the two scripts.
