It seems that on an hourly basis now, I'm dealing with spammers. There must be an automated program of some kind that signs on as a Guest and posts the most offensive comments I've ever read. They use random IP addresses of anonymous proxies, so blocking them by IP seems to have no effect.

Does anyone have any advice on how to fight this, other than forcing users to register, or manually going in every hour to remove it?

I guess these are bots that look for web forms and guess they are not specifically targeting seo-board. Forcing people to register imo is critical these days.

I agree that forcing register is almost a must anymore.

Just out of curiosity, would it be easy for me to program something so that anyone creating a post with the offending words would have their post rejected on the fly?

Just a simple if-then statement would be fine, as I'm getting hammered. Probably too specific a need for a future enhancement request, but at least I'd like to try to use my amateur PHP skills as a stopgap until CAPTCHA becomes available.

Could you provide hints on what line of code I'd need to look at?

Thanks!

hcl777, it won't be easy. You are wanting to write sth like an email spam filter since allowing anonymous posts is like giving your email on a site for the spammers to send you their s**t.

Funny those bots. Or I'm not quite sure if it was a bot, but one day someone registered and advertised for bladders

The best way to fight it is with CAPTCHA setup.  That's what you need.  You could pay a programmer $50 to set it up via http://www.RentACoder.com
