This may be digging up a now old thread, but when I ran a Yabb forum I was overrun with spam, until I put in place the requirement for email verification which eliminated it for the most part.
IP banning is only going to control spam coming from a member doing it. Many spammers use proxies and many don't even visit your forum to do it. Being that spamming is largely hit and run, and many of them use fake email addresses anyway, requiring them to respond to an email will eliminate, in what experience I have had, a good bit if not the majority of the spam you are getting.
Of course, if I am wrong, let me know as that is from my experience and I could use pointers as well for consideration. __________________
