Hi everyone,

Does anyone have any experience migrating SEO-Board to punBB? Unfortunately, my SEO-Board has become completely unusable because of spam, so I need to convert my board to one that supports CAPTCHA or Akismet. But of course, I don't want to lose the history of the discussion.

Thanks,
sdy

I cannot offer you migration help.
As a quick-fix to the spam, try banning the Ips of the spammers.

Yeah, I've banned (I kid you not) about 2000 of them so far, but they keep coming every day, more and more.

I am loathe to leave SEO-Board, because I've absolutely loved it (it's far better than any other one out there), but the lack of spam control is killing me

Are they coming from a particular country/location?

you could probably ban blocks of IPs in your htaccess file - ban & redirect

This may be digging up a now old thread, but when I ran a Yabb forum I was overrun with spam, until I put in place the requirement for email verification which eliminated it for the most part.

IP banning is only going to control spam coming from a member doing it. Many spammers use proxies and many don't even visit your forum to do it. Being that spamming is largely hit and run, and many of them use fake email addresses anyway, requiring them to respond to an email will eliminate, in what experience I have had, a good bit if not the majority of the spam you are getting.

Of course, if I am wrong, let me know as that is from my experience and I could use pointers as well for consideration.
