I have just noticed that the new indictor doesnt work properly ive viewed a topic 3 times and still shows as new?

That's because you haven't replied to the topic with the new posts. The idea is not to forget to post on topics with new posts.

But the whole idea of topic indicators being *new* is that you havn't seen them yet

I prefer this implementation because
1) I see "new" besides all topics with new posts when I visit the forum first
2) and next.. I check out the threads and answer some of them. I want to see, which ones I have answered, because I sometimes forget to answer all topics. I see *new* besides all unanswered topics with new posts since last visit.

Would it be easy to change this behavior? The default behavior is great for support forums and administrators, but do users want to reply to all the messages? If not, they always see new.

It would be better to change this behaviour. There may not always be replies to every posts.

All "new" topics becomes "old" within 10 minutes (i guess it's adjustable in forum options), so I can't really see the problem. Once users understand this behavior, they'll feel comfortable.
