SEO-Board Forum Software Community / General / Programming / URL are not search engine friendly

Ok just found this forum and love it but it is old school as far as the actual urls go. I have spent hours searching here and many old post related to this the links don't work. So please don't respond with this is here already just search for answer because it is not.

I am not an expert in SEO but very close to it. The urs structure with the forum# in them is not good.

Any half decent seo guy will tell you keywords in urls today are very important. Not sure why this forum still uses forum and a number as the url.

So any way i need to know how i can replace the $forum_id in the url so it uses the forum name or title instead.

So i need the code for the skinning.php and the mod rewrite adjustment.

An example turn this... /forum4.htm to this /bug-reports.html

Any help on this would be great.

Thanks
Brian

What you suggest won't make a big difference - it is just a tiny improvement that can make it way more difficult to make the forum work with all languages. Good luck with it

It makes a HUGE difference i have been doing seo for 10 years now. I have sites ranked in top five in some very, very competitive markets.

I figured it out though wasn't expecting much help hear after reading many of the post there is not much support going on in this forum.

Thanks any way though.

Keywords in the URL does matter but it's not a major factor in SEO. It helps but it's not that big compared to backlinks and quality of backlinks. I've seen many sites beating the keyword-domains cause they have good backlinks and good content.

You said your URL is not search engine friendly...so rewrite URL.
